On 8 June 2021, my now husband and I, utilized the services of Red Shutter Studio for both our engagement photo and wedding photos, with both photo shoots occurring in Charleston, South Carolina.
There are a few aspects of Red Shutter Studio that set them apart from others in the saturated wedding/event photography space. First of all, Tara and Rod are consummate professionals who put their clients’ needs and desires first throughout the entire process. Every communication email or otherwise, was answered in a timely fashion, enabling me to worry less about that aspect of the planning process. The payment process was exceptionally transparent and streamlined, at no point was there ambiguity or uncertainty. Next, the quality of the photos is second to none. Quite simply you will find no finer photographer than Rod. His ability to capture the moments within a special event is unsurpassed. Of all the aspects of my wedding, I will cherish the photos for a lifetime, they are amazing and perfectly illustrate the range of emotions that encompass such a life event. Lastly, being an officer in the Navy Reserves, I wanted to support a veteran owned business. Rod is a retired Senior Non-Commissioned Officer, a rank that takes a great deal of competency and diligence to achieve, where excellence is the standard – traits that translate perfectly to photographing dynamic events.

Wedding planning, organizing, and day-of execution is no small feat. Red Shutter Studio upheld the highest standards of integrity, forethought, and competency, pre-, during-, and post-wedding. We were especially impressed with how effective both Rod and Tara were at communicating throughout the wedding process. Answering impromptu questions, providing foresight/advice into picture planning, and maintaining accurate cost estimates are just a few of the areas that were of utmost importance to their team and our family. Rod & Tara are AH-MAZING at what they do!! We were looking for a photographer that would do more than your average photographer with just a really nice camera. They are true experts in capturing artistic photographs and their editing techniques are incredible. You cannot get two BETTER photographers than Tara and Rod with Red Shutter Studio! We were running out of time to find and book a photographer so we called the very first photographer recommended to us and had a “get to know you session”. After that we were hooked! We didn’t even bother to call another person…and it was the best decision ever! Their prices are listed openly on their website which saves you time. When we met with Tara to discuss what they had to offer, she showed a genuine interest in us and what was going on in our lives. She took the time to answer and ask many questions in detail to direct her services to suit our personality and preferences. She has a very professional attitude and “the customer knows best” approach. She responded promptly with all correspondence, and worked with us on making changes to their photo package to suit the interests of me the bride, which reassured me they are the best in the business! On rehearsal night I met Rod… Can I say hysterical!! This guy will make you laugh and put every care and worry at ease. He knows how to work with your guests and get the best pictures of your family possible. He also is a wizard with Photoshop and will turn every picture into a piece of art. When it was raining on the big day, he recommended we head to the college laundry mat to take pictures in lieu of getting soaked outside. Instead of taking pictures of memories…we made memories while taking pictures! It was a blast and a nice little secret get away to unveil to our guests later. We received so many positive comments back regarding these “not so traditional” pictures. Now my husband and I plan on going back every ten years to the laundry mat to get anniversary pics. Hopefully, Tara and Rod will be there with us to capture the moment. The best thing was they got our pictures to us within a week! I highly recommend Tara and Rod for your wedding day or any memory of life you want to capture! I have chosen my photographers for life!

I absolutely loved Rod & Tara and I loved the moments they captured at my wedding. When we first met I asked them to capture all the moments. I am not one for stiff posed shots. Well they delivered more than I could even imagine. Check out their website and tell me you don't want those moments captured at your wedding. And their turn-around time is amazing!
In addition to stunning, swoon-worthy, amazing photographs, they have top notch quality. They raise the bar for how anyone in the wedding industry should act. Tara responded almost instantly to every email I sent and was very organized throughout the entire time. The day of, they kept us laughing and relaxed throughout the pictures. Everyone, even my "Don't take my picture" Grandmother loved them.
These photographers are so amazing that my best friend is flying them out for her wedding in a different state because she just has to have stunning pictures and knows they will deliver. After meeting with Red Shutter in October of 2011, I immediately knew this was the level of professionalism I wanted to capture the day. They provided samples of their work, albums, and links to other Charleston Weddings of which they were a part. I booked them on the spot. Tara and Rod are a husband and wife team. They arrived at 3:30PM at the Salon, for getting ready,and were by the bride and groom's side until 11:00PM. From the salon, to the venue, to the church, back to the venue for dinner and dancing, and departure, they didn't miss a moment! Exactly what I was hoping for, to be able to relive the day over and over again! I have 1543 photos to relive the day! They are very personable, and made us feel like long time friends! We loved working with Rod & Tara! Have had our engagement pictures already, wedding is in 6 months. They are wonderful to work with and loved our e-pics! We got our first peek within a week of the wedding, and then the full shot list (1600 pictures!) up within 3. So fantastic I didn't have to wait months and months for them! And, we own the pictures after the wedding, so it'll be nice to have them when I want to make a print down the road! Couldn't have asked for anything more from Rod & Tara!

If I call you, I don't think I could get the words out. I don't think I have to words to accurately tell you what this means to me. You know how nostalgic I am, and these pictures are a gift that will celebrate Curtis and I for many years. Not only are these pictures a gift to us, but to Sierra, Sutton and their children. Those pictures totally captured the essence of the event and your fine eye for capturing "life" is amazing! I have been a wedding ceremony coordinator in Charleston for 10 years, so Rod & Tara did not actually shoot my wedding. Rod and I spoke last year about weddings after I fell in love with his environmental photography. He attended several of my weddings throughout last summer.
Knowing how much I loved his other pictures, I anxiously awaited each Sunday morning following the weddings for his photos from the day before. I have never been disappointed. I told him in one email that getting to see his wedding pictures was like getting to open a present.
I knew the brides prior to the wedding, and I feel that he expertly captured their happiness and radiance on their wedding days. He was able to artistically capture the moments of a wedding day that some photographers might miss in trying to get the "right" photos. I hope that makes sense.
Everyone expects to see the group photos, and they are wonderful. But to be able to capture feelings as well as "stolen moments", I feel, is a great skill indeed.
I find both Rod and Tara very easy going and pleasant to work with. They are very professional, but you will find yourself very much at ease with both of them. There is definitely not a prima donna attitude in either of them; something I have seen in several photographers over the years. It has been my experience that the better photographers get their shots without getting in the way. Some photographers will take over your wedding. You would be amazed how many weddings and receptions have been held up because of photographers. I believe you will find that to not be the case with Tara and Rod.
I also believe you will be pleased with their level of professionalism and the high artistic quality of your pictures should you choose to have them photograph your special day.

My fiancé and I are getting married in Mount Pleasant, South Carolina, but we actually live in North Carolina. This meant that much of the “shopping” we did for wedding photography was online. I think we must have looked at fifty wedding photographer websites. When I saw Rod’s website my attention was instantly captured. There was something unique about the site itself, and we thought the photographs were just beautiful. We felt like he was not just a good photographer, but an artist.
When we met Rod and Tara we were invited as guests in their home/studio. We spent time getting to know them as people, got to see Rod’s work, and the album choices. We were very upfront with expressing that we didn’t want a photographer at our wedding who would tell us and our guests when to be happy, excited, etc. He made us feel very confident that he wanted to shoot our wedding as it happens, not as he orchestrated, which so many photographers try to do.
We recently had our engagement photos shot, and we are VERY happy with them. The whole shoot lasted about 30 minutes and we were very happy with the results. Rod did a great job of working with us and picking very beautiful locations around the Charleston Battery. We didn't want to be posed; we just wanted to look like ourselves, and Rod definitely achieved that goal. Also, Rod is also just a really funny guy and great to be with, so we laughed and just had a great time taking the photos. My fiancé is not one who loves to take a lot of photographs and he left saying, "Wow that was fun!"
We had our photos taken on Sunday, and he quickly posted them on a website for us the next day. I sent the link on to family and friends and they were as ecstatic as we were. Most wrote back within minutes telling me which ones were their favorites. We can’t wait until our wedding and the beautiful photos we will have afterwards.
